ACH Direct Debit
Businesses in the US can conveniently collect funds from their customers by setting up direct debit payments, also known as ACH debits. Customers provide their bank account information and authorize the business to debit their account.
Payment Method | Bank Debit |
Currency | USD |
Customer location | United States |
Payment Confirmation | 4-5 business days |
Refunds | Yes |
Disputes | Yes |
How ACH Direct Debit payment works
When a customer wants to make a payment using ACH Direct Debit, they will need to provide their bank account information, such as their account number and routing number. However, before the payment can be processed, the customer must first accept a mandate that gives legal permission to initiate future direct debits for the customer's payments.
To ensure the ownership of the account and prevent fraudulent activity, there are two common methods used for verification: instant verification and micro-deposits.
Once the ownership of the account is verified and the mandate is accepted, you can initiate direct debits from the customer's bank account to receive payments. This payment method offers a convenient way for customers to make payments directly from their bank accounts without the need for a physical card.

- Monthly Installments: For larger purchases, Affirm offers the ability to pay in monthly installments over a longer period of up to 36 months. However, depending on the terms, these monthly installments may include interest charges.
The important thing to note is that Affirm uses an algorithm to present customers with the payment options that are most likely to result in higher conversion rates.
