How to Create a Campaign Monitor Signup Form in WordPress

Campaign Monitor is a popular email marketing tool and for good reason. It's an app that will help you take great steps towards automating parts of your business. It's particularly suited to those who already have experience in email marketing and are familiar with email design.

One of the key reasons why people choose Campaign Monitor over popular choices like MailChimp is because they offer more integrations than a lot of their competitors.

That's what we want to talk about today - using integrations, specifically between Campaign Monitor and our very own Formidable Forms. Integrations like this are probably one of the key reasons why you chose either app in the first place.

We've talked recently about how to integrate ActiveCampaign with Formidable Forms. But today, we want to teach you just how easy it is to set up this link and how to use Campaign Monitor signup forms in WordPress.

So, if you're looking for an efficient way to use both Campaign Monitor and Formidable Forms together, we've got great news. Formidable now offers a Campaign Monitor integration!

Step 1 - Install and activate Formidable Forms

The very first step is to install our WordPress form builder plugin on your WordPress site.

Simply download Formidable Forms from your Account page and upload it into WordPress. Follow our instructions on how to get setup and activate the plugin.

Step 2 - Install the Campaign Monitor plugin for Formidable

When Formidable has all been set up, you'll need to install the Formidable Campaign Monitor WordPress plugin.

Go to your WordPress dashboard and click Formidable → Add-Ons.

Find the Campaign Monitor WordPress plugin and click Install.

Step 3 - Set up the Campaign Monitor signup form integration

Once your Campaign Monitor add-on is installed, you'll see a new form action, ready to use.

To access this, first head over to Formidable → Global Settings → Campaign Monitor. This should pull up some options including a space for your API key.

To find your API key, visit your Campaign Monitor account. Log in and click on your profile image in the right hand corner.  In the dropdown, click Account Settings → API keys.

Next, click on the link to Show API key. If you haven't already generated one, you'll first need to click Generate API key.

Copy your API key and Client ID and head back over to Formidable. Paste your details in the relevant boxes. This will create a link between Formidable Forms and your Campaign Monitor account.

Step 4 - Create a Campaign Monitor signup form

The next step is to build a Campaign Monitor contact form.

Either create a new form, or open the existing contact form you wish to use with Campaign Monitor.

In your form's Settings, go to Actions & Notifications. Click on the Campaign Monitor form action and give it a new Action Name for easy reference.

Now, it's time to select the Campaign Monitor list you wish to use.

The fields in your Campaign Monitor signup form will need to mapped with those in your Campaign Monitor list. Any custom fields you have created in Campaign Monitor will also show here, so you can choose what is saved there.

Each field should match its respective field. For example, the Campaign Monitor Email Address field should be mapped with your Formidable Email field, and the Campaign Monitor Name matched with the Formidable Name field. You can see an example of what it'll look like below.

All that's left to do is submit the form. This will create a new subscriber in your Campaign Monitor account.
