Approximate read time: 6.5 minutes
Have you ever wondered how to build a personality quiz in WordPress?
You see them everywhere on the internet. Myers-Briggs, Caliper, 16Personalities, and many more bring visitors to these websites. And you want a cut of the pie.
So, we’ve created this how-to to show you how to create a personality quiz in WordPress to boost your WordPress site’s traffic today!
But first, we’ll introduce you to one of the best quiz makers for WordPress: Formidable Forms.
First, why would you use a personality quiz on WordPress?
Quick question, what spreads faster: wildfire or quizzes?
If you chose quizzes, we’ve decided you’re correct (although we don’t have statistics to back that up).
All jokes aside, people love quizzes. They often finish them. And some quizzes have as high as a 92% completion rate! That’s far higher than the industry average of 65%.
And when users go through a quiz start-to-finish, that means multiple things for you and your website:
- Longer dwell times
- Higher visitor engagement
- Increased lead generation
- More market research
- Builds customer loyalty
Let’s look at these in more detail.
1. Longer dwell times
If a user takes the time to complete your personality quiz, your dwell time will skyrocket.
But, what is dwell time, and why is it important?
Dwell time is the time a user spends reading content on your page. If your content is what they’re looking for, they stay. If it’s not, they bounce. But why is this important?
Google’s primary goal is to give you exactly what you want. And it’s constantly scanning data to find the best choices.
And what better way to see if users enjoy content than if they’re “dwelling on it.”
Plus, if you look up Google’s ranking factors, you’ll find a user’s engagement with a page as one of the top factors.
Want to attract visitors and increase Google rankings? Quizzes are knocking at your door.
2. Higher visitor engagement
Increasing engagement rates and doing Calculus are surprisingly similar.
You’ll get a hit sometimes, but it often leaves you scratching your head.
So, using a simple personality quiz to skyrocket your engagement seems like a hack. But it’s not. People love forms, and they’ll stop whatever else they’re doing to take one that interests them.

And that’s where you come in. Put a quick personality quiz on your website and watch the engagement increase faster than inflation.
Plus, they’re fantastic for social shares.
We’d say it’s too good to be true, but this benefit is good and true.
3. Increase lead generation
If visitors start and complete your quiz, that’s an easy source of leads.
Whether you want to get an email address or recommend a product, the end of your quiz is perfect.
Have you ever filled out a quiz, and right when you get to the end to reveal your answer, it asks for your email? You sigh, then debate how important this answer is to you. Ultimately, you enter your email and are happy to get your quiz results.
You’re not alone. We all experience this moment, and most of us enter our email.
“I’ll just unsubscribe later,” you think to yourself. But you never do.
And that’s a chance for you to promote your business.
4. Easy market research
The entire purpose of personality quizzes is to reveal something about the person taking it.
And depending on your quiz style, you get that data to connect with your website visitors in a way you couldn’t before.
Build an email list to give visitors the information they’re looking for. Recommend a product that can solve a problem they’re having. Regardless of how you use it, it’s an extremely valuable piece of information to have.
And that information helps you improve.
5. Builds visitor loyalty
People are naturally loyal.
If people feel the results you get from your personality quiz help them, they’ll return.
And you can continue building a relationship off of those visits.
Loyal visitors/customers don’t only come to your website, either. They support your business, share it with friends and family, and give you valuable feedback.
A quiz is an easy way to start that relationship that hopefully forms into something beautiful. Just look at what Harry Potter quizzes do for websites.
But how do you build personality quizzes in the first place? For that, you’ll need a WordPress personality quiz plugin ?.

How do I make a personality quiz in WordPress with Formidable?
Even better, Formidable’s Outcome Quiz feature makes your personality quizzes simple.
But, you'll need to grab our Business Plan to use our amazing quiz features. But, don't worry, you get 14 days to try it out or get your money back. No questions asked.
So, once you get that downloaded and installed, we'll get started.
It’ll be four easy steps:
- Create your quiz form and add questions
- Change quiz outcomes
- Define the outcome logic
- Display your quiz
Let’s get started.
1. Create your quiz form and add questions
In your WordPress dashboard, go to Formidable → Forms → Add New.
Here, select Blank Form and give your form a name.
Next, you’ll be taken to the form builder. As we mentioned, you only have to drag and drop. You have many fields to choose from.
But, if you’re building a personality quiz, we recommend including the Likert Scale fields.
You can customize the field label in the settings on the left-hand side to ask any question you want.
If you'd like, you can add conditional logic to your form to show/hide questions based on a user’s previous questions and answers. But it’s not necessary for a personality quiz.
Once you’ve set up your quiz form, click Update. Now, it’s time to add the quiz features.
2. Change quiz outcomes
To make this form a quiz, go to Settings → Actions & Notifications → Quiz Outcome.
Inside the quiz settings, give your quiz an Action Name. No one sees this besides you.
Additionally, you can customize how you want the quiz to work:
- Customize the action name
- Choose when the action is triggered
- Upload an image to show with on the outcome results page
- Add results you want to display in the Visual/Text editor
- Add additional outcomes
- Add the conditions for the outcome to be met
Once you’ve set these up, let’s head to defining your outcome logic.
3. Define outcome logic
Now we need to choose what outcomes are shown to your visitors.
In the Quiz Outcome settings, click the Add Outcome Conditions button.
You can customize what is shown based on your user’s answers. And, to make this even better, you can weight your answers.
So, if you want one question to be stronger on the outcome than others, it’s easy!
All you have to do is add the same outcome condition multiple times. Pretty simple, right?
Remember, the result with the highest number of submissions will be the result. If there’s a tie, it will show the outcome with the lower ID.
Once you’ve customized your outcomes, let’s display your quiz form so people can start using it!
4. Display your quiz
Okay, let’s get this quiz up on your page or post.
Go to the page you want to show the quiz, and go into the editor settings. Find the place on the page you want to put the quiz, then add a WordPress block. Search “Formidable” and click the Formidable block.
Next, select your quiz from the dropdown menu, and click Update.
And that’s all! Your personality quiz is live and ready to become a viral quiz ?.

I'm really amazed at how far this plugin has come. We do personality tests for various things and built them before this was a feature using custom javascript to rank outcomes. We may need to go back and review if this new quiz setup is worth rebuilding in.

Thanks! We have a lot still in the pipe line so stay buckled up. Thanks for using Formidable Forms for building your personality tests. If you decide to check out the new outcome quizzes, do let us know what you think and what improvements you would like to see in the future.

Color themes need to be implemented.
srwells says
Hi Naresh,
Thanks for the feedback. We are working on a much simpler styler and additional style templates for forms, but I'm not 100% sure if that is what you are requesting. Could you provide more details about what color themes you would like to see added?

how can i design the same page like 16personalities test website with formidable plugin?
Richard Harris says
This is great. Is it also possible to show all outcomes weighted by relevance? For example, if there were 5 possible outcomes, it would list all 5 but in the order that they matched for relevance?
Kyle Cash says
Hey Richard,
Thanks for the question. At this time, you can show the totals with the shortcode [x show=totals]. But it doesn't sort them by relevance or in order based on the answers.
This is a great idea, though! I'll pass this on to our developers as a possible addition in the future.
